Dr Silas Carey

Owner, Clinical Director | Doctor of Physiotherapy

  • Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT), New York Medical College, 2016
  • Bachelor of Journalism

Originally from New York in the United States, I became interested in physiotherapy while working with rehab professionals as a long-distance runner at university level. I graduated from New York Medical College in 2016 with a Doctorate of Physiotherapy degree, then worked in private practice and hospital-based rehab at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan before moving to New Zealand with my wife, Alli. We started Coast Physio together in 2019 after falling in love with the wild beauty of the West Coast and seeing the need for physio services.

I enjoy meeting and working with the wide variety of people and conditions that come through our clinic. I am passionate about improving our clients’ quality of life, maximising their enjoyment of sport and leisure, and keeping them healthy and safe at work. It is vital to empower people to take charge of their health and wellness through education and guidance.

I still run today, competing in trail ultramarathons around New Zealand and abroad. I also enjoy mountain and road cycling, fly fishing, tramping, and playing guitar (very much a work in progress).

Fun fact: I also hold a Bachelor of Journalism degree. Your clinical notes will be written to perfection!
