Funding and referrals

How is your physiotherapy paid for?

Most patients are covered by ACC, some pay privately and some come to us through their employer. Whichever applies to you, we sort the paperwork.

Private physiotherapy

Private practice physiotherapy care

If your injury or condition is not covered by ACC, you can still book directly with us as a private patient. No referral is needed, and there is no waiting list.

ACC

Rehabilitation contracts

Coast Physio is an ACC accredited provider. If you have hurt yourself in an accident, we can lodge the ACC claim for you at your first appointment and ACC contributes towards the cost of your treatment.

How ACC covers physiotherapy

Work site

Assessments and vocational rehabilitation

We work with employers and ACC on work site assessments and vocational rehabilitation, helping people stay safe at work and return to work after an injury.

Referrals

X-rays, ultrasounds and specialists

When imaging or a specialist opinion is needed, we can refer you directly for X-rays and ultrasound scans, and on to orthopaedic and other specialists.

Maternal

Lodging of birth injury claims

ACC now covers a range of maternal birth injuries. We can assess you, lodge the claim and provide the physiotherapy care that follows.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to the questions patients ask most before their first appointment. Anything else, phone us on 03 928 0352.

Do I need a referral to see a physiotherapist?

No. In New Zealand you can book directly with a physiotherapist without seeing a GP first. That includes ACC-covered injuries: we can lodge the ACC claim for you at your first appointment.

Draft answer to be confirmed by the clinic.

Does ACC cover physiotherapy?

Yes, if your injury was caused by an accident. Coast Physio is an ACC accredited provider, so ACC pays a contribution towards each treatment and you pay a surcharge for the balance. We lodge the claim for you, so there is no paperwork to do before you arrive.

Draft answer to be confirmed by the clinic.

How much does an appointment cost?

Fees depend on whether your treatment is ACC-funded or private, and on the length of the appointment. Please phone the clinic on 03 928 0352 for current prices. (Silas to confirm the fees to publish.)

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Bring any referral letters, scan or X-ray reports, and a list of the medications you take. If your injury is an ACC claim that has already been lodged, bring your claim number. If it has not been lodged, we will do it with you.

Draft answer to be confirmed by the clinic.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing that lets us see and move the area being treated. Shorts for hip, knee, ankle or foot problems, and a singlet or loose top for shoulder, neck and back problems.

Draft answer to be confirmed by the clinic.

How long does an appointment take?

Your initial consultation includes a full assessment and usually takes 45 minutes to an hour. Follow-up appointments are typically 30 minutes. (Silas to confirm.)
